My oh my, what a wonderful team we have! So wonderful, in fact, that our recent cohort of new starters made the news several times over. We agree that they’re well worth shouting about, so we thought we’d give the people what they want – an up-close and personal spotlight on one of the trio. Don’t worry, if you missed Susan’s you can read it here, and Kasia will be in the spotlight herself next month.
So let’s talk about Eoin. As a Client Services Associate, Eoin works closely with the Financial Planning team to deliver a service that is second to none. Critical to this is always being on hand for clients and helping in any way he can. In classic Limerick fashion, Eoin is a sportsman through and through. His main love is hurling, but he is very partial to the odd spot of golf.
But that’s enough from us – let’s let the man of the hour do the talking.
Hi Eoin, thanks for sitting down in our spotlight this month. Let’s kick off with an easy question: in just three words, how would you describe the work you do every day at Metis Ireland?
It’s early doors still but, so far, I would say engaging, challenging, and meaningful.
As you say, it’s still early in your Metis Ireland career, but have you had a ‘proudest moment’ yet?
I have, actually! Being a part of my first client meeting and seeing the difference a Metis LifePlan can make to people’s lives made me feel very proud. It showed me just how vital these plans can be and the very real effect they have on people’s lives! I almost shed a little tear afterwards.
It’s true; you don’t fully appreciate the impact of a Metis LifePlan until you see it in action. Powerful stuff. Eoin, tell us the quote or phrase that goes through life with you.
“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time”. I have no idea who said it, but it’s a great mantra to live by! There’s no rush, things will come at you, and there’s always the bigger picture, but you have to enjoy each day as it comes.
Touché, Eoin. So you’ve seen a Metis LifePlan in action now: what’s in your own Metis LifePlan?
Buy a house eventually, and do some travelling – I’d like to visit Eastern Asia and South America. And, probably quite predictably for me, I’d also like to make a golf trip to St. Andrews and other Scottish courses.
Travel is a popular answer. There’s nothing quite like the human inclination towards curiosity and adventure. Where is the most interesting place you’ve been so far?
Probably a deserted Niagara Falls. I visited it on the first day of lockdown in Canada, and it was surreal to see it with no crowds around it.
That sounds spooky! Only two more questions left: first, who is your hero and why?
I don’t have one hero, but I look up to many different people in different facets of my life – kind of a mixed bag, I suppose.
And finally, if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Keep an open mind. Some of the things I enjoy doing most have been things I did not think I would enjoy all that much.
There’s a lot of wisdom in those four words! Eoin, thank you for your time. This concludes our spotlight.
