Return On Life – Lunch Event Conrad Hotel Dublin Jan 24th 2019

It was such a thrill to launch our white paper “Making Better Decisions” in Dublin last week. We were blown away by the support for the event meaning that we were fully subscribed a few days before kick off. For anyone that organises events from time to time, you will know how rare an occurrence this is! Normally, there are frantic calls being made in the last few days to get “bums on seats”!

Honestly, we were a little nervous about how this event would go as it was our first big event in Dublin since launching our office in Dublin in 2018. But these apprehensions were unfounded as our Fitzwilliam Square based Private Client Manager, Stephen Norris spread the word and we quickly realised that we would have a “full event”. Caragh O’Shea worked closely with Stephen to ensure we delivered a great event – hats off guys, it was brilliant! (Quick mention here for the Conrad Hotel who were excellent throughout and we will definitely use them again).

The two speakers were me (!) and Mitch Anthony or as I keep saying the Student (me!) and The Master. We knew how good Mitch was going to be as we have heard him at various events over the past couple of years. One of my goals was to get him to travel over from the US and do a talk for our clients. Wow, were we glad we asked him!

I don’t think there will be many people in Ireland who are familiar with Mitch’s work. But when you read his Bio (shortened version below), the experience that this guy has is remarkable:

“Mitch Anthony is the founder and president of Advisor Insights Inc., The Financial Life Planning Institute, ROL Advisor.com, and Life-Centered Planners (U.K.). Mitch is recognized around the globe for his pioneering work in life-centered planning.

Mitch is a consistently top-rated presenter and was recognized as one of the most “meaningful speakers” in financial services. He has been named one of the financial services industry’s top “Movers & Shakers.”

Mitch is a sought-after expert for the media, and a regular columnist for Financial Advisor magazine. His columns have appeared on CBS MarketWatch and in the Journal of Financial Planning. His original comic strip “Stanley Brambles, CFG (Certified Financial Guru)” has appeared in Research magazine. Mitch is also host of the daily radio feature, The Daily Dose, heard on over 100 radio stations nationwide.

Mitch is the author of many groundbreaking books for advisors and consumers, including perennial bestseller Storyselling for Financial Advisors, cited by Financial Advisor magazine as the number one “must-read” book for financial professionals. His other books include The New Retirementality (now in its 4th edition), Defining Conversations, From the Boiler Room to the Living Room, The Financial Professional’s StoryBook, Your Clients for Life, Your Client’s Story, Selling with Emotional Intelligence, and The Financial Lit-Kit (The Cash in the Hat, The Bean is not Green, and Where Did the Money Go?).”

But we all know folk who have huge experience but can be a little tedious to listen to (self-awareness!). This guy can deliver a talk! One of our guests said:

“He’s like an Amercian preacher ….. he sucks you in and brings you along”

I love this analogy. That’s what the hour with Mitch felt like. It felt like everyone in the room was on a journey with Mitch. We were on the journey together. We were all on the good ship Anthony and Captain Mitch was guiding us along!

I’ve spoken at lots of events over the past few years and while I am always nervous before I take to the stage, it doesn’t bother me as much as it used to (for those who attended HUM Dublin 2018 that was the exception as I was presenting to peers!). But listening to Mitch I realised just how much I have to learn about delivering an engaging, passionate and really funny talk.

However now I have the template that I can aspire to. I’m not sure Mitch’s talent can be “learned”. I think much of it is talent that Mitch is born with. However, that won’t stop me from trying to emulate this Master. This student promises to work hard!

We are all on high after the event and so positive for what the year ahead holds for us as we deliver of World Class Financial Planning to more and more Dublin based clients.

Thank you everyone who attended.

Thank you, Mitch Anthony!
