How the turns have tabled! After working our way through celebrating each of our team members in the Metis Ireland Spotlight, we’ve finally reached the summit. The only person left to grace the Team Spotlight stage is none other than our captain, Managing Director Carl Widger.
Carl’s vision – that Metis Ireland will always be synonymous with world-class financial planning – is what guides the way we conduct our business, and his leadership steers our course. And although he hates the limelight and prefers to celebrate his team as a whole, we’d argue that he’s a pretty integral part of said team, and therefore worth celebrating too. Wouldn’t you agree?
So, without further ado, let’s get to questioning.
Hi Carl, we finally got you here in the questioning seat! We’ll go easy on you, promise. Let’s start at the beginning: can you describe the kind of work you do in three words?
I certainly can: “Different stuff everyday!”
Hmm, “every day” is technically two words but we’ll let you have it. Now, it must be hard to pick, but what’s been your proudest moment at Metis Ireland?
My proudest moment? Gosh, you’re right, there are too many to just say one moment. Some of the highlights are definitely:
And, finally, I’m always proud (and very “tired”) after the Metis Ireland team nights out!
They are cracking team nights out! You’ve got a lot to be proud of, and we did shed a little tear reminiscing on all those fantastic moments in Metis Ireland’s journey.
Now Carl, tell us the quote or phrase that goes through life with you.
It’s simple and well-known but I love it: “To infinity and beyond”.
It’s a wonderful quote. Pardon our nosiness, but as a creator of the Metis LifePlan, we’ve got to ask: what’s in your Metis LifePlan?
I actually have a book that I keep on my desk that has all of my goals, dreams and aspirations. I’ve more than a 100 in there. I tend to keep most of them to myself and, for now, I’ll keep it that way!
Rats! We’ll have to get you to tell us one in secret on the next team night out.
Let’s talk travel. Where’s the most interesting place you’ve been?
I love travelling so there are a few standouts – Kilimanjaro, San Francisco, and I recently visited the south of France for the first time since I was a kid and absolutely loved it.
They all sound incredible. Carl, who is your hero and why?
It’s got to be Buzz Lightyear – “To infinity and beyond”!
We should have seen that one coming, admittedly.
So, to close, tell us this; if you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
Your gut is right every single time. Trust it.
That’s excellent advice. Our gut usually just tells us we need another bag of Taytos, but maybe we should listen a little more closely…
Carl, it’s been a pleasure having you in the spotlight.
